15. This formerly proprietary technology was renamed iDEN or integrated Dispatch Enhanced Network in 1995. iDEN may now be licensed from Motorola. MIRS was originally developed for NexTel (then known as FleetCall). Motorola subsequently traded its SMR channels (then amounting to 30% of the channels available in the U.S.) to NexTel in exchange for an equity interest in the company.
